Chapter 1: first

The kitchen was alive with the clattering of pots and pans, infused with the rich aroma of spices and the warmth of family banter. Anirudh, dressed in a crisp pink shirt and blue jeans, strolled in with a grin that couldn't be concealed. The clock was ticking, and his excitement for the impending meeting with Vasudha was palpable.

Anirudh: (enthusiastically) "Maa, Badi Chachi, Choti Chachi, Dadi, I'm all set. Is our lunch ready?"

Amrita, with a playful glint in her eye, glanced at Nandini and then turned her attention to Anirudh.

Amrita: (teasingly) "Our lunch haan? Oh, Anirudh, my dear, Vasudha se Milne ke liye betaab? It's like you're the hero of a romantic blockbuster, rushing to a rendezvous!"

Anirudh: (blushing) "Maa, it's not like that. I just want everything to be perfect."

Ragini, his  badi chachi, chimed in, adding her own touch of drama to the scene.

Ragini: (dramatically) "Ah, the fragrance of young love! I remember when your Bade Chachu and I first met. It was like a scene straight out of a Bollywood classic!"

Anirudh: (rolling his eyes with a smile) "Chachi, please! It's just a meeting."

Pallavi, his choti chachi, couldn't let the moment pass without her own playful comment.

Pallavi: "But Anirudh, you've dressed so well! Pink shirt, blue jeans – it's like you're auditioning for the lead role in a love story, not just a lunch date."

Amrita, the mischievous mother, winked at Nandini, setting the stage for the next act.

Amrita: "Maa, hamara Ani bada ho gaya hai. Soon, he'll be bringing home his dulhan, and we'll be dancing at his wedding!"

Nandini chuckled, her eyes twinkling with mirth. She handed Anirudh a carefully packed lunchbox.

Nandini: "Here you go, beta. A little something I whipped up."

Anirudh took the lunchbox, the aroma wafting up to greet him.

Anirudh: (smiling) "Dadi, it smells amazing! What did you pack?"

Nandini: "Ah, a little bit of this and that – the secret ingredients are love and anticipation. Now, off you go, bache! Maine tujhe Location bhej di hai WhatsApp par."

Anirudh: "Dadi bataiye na kya kya hai?"

Nandini:"Tera favourite Palak Paneer, Fried Rice, Bhindi, Dal Tadka, Boondi Raita & Ajwian Paranthas. Aur haan meethe me halwa. Ab ja, jaakar impress kar hamari Vasudha ko, jisse mai jaldi se teri baarat me Naach sakun!"

Anirudh gives his Dadi a full-blown smile, touches her feet and makes his way out of the bustling kitchen, the laughter and teasing followed him like a sweet melody. Little did he know that this lunch, filled with Dadi's love and a hint of mischief, would be the catalyst for a beautiful journey ahead.

Anirudh stepped out into the sunlight, the lunchbox securely in hand, as he made his way to the parking area. The anticipation of his impending meeting with Vasudha was tinged with a sense of mystery as he checked his phone for the address his Dadi had shared. To his surprise, it was the location of an orphanage cum old age home.

Anirudh: (muttering to himself) "An orphanage? Why here? What's Dadi up to?"

His curiosity lingered, but he decided that all his questions would be answered once he arrived. As he approached his car, Anirudh felt a mixture of excitement and nervousness. The lunchbox, a tangible symbol of his Dadi's hopes and approval of Vasudha, felt like a heavy responsibility.

As he drove, his thoughts raced. The nervousness built up, and Anirudh couldn't help but question his own readiness for this meeting. He realized he had never met someone in such a formal, arranged setting. What if he couldn't find anything to talk about? What if Vasudha didn't like him? These thoughts played like a broken record in his mind.

Anirudh: (whispering) "Come on, Anirudh, you've got this. Just be yourself."

Despite his internal pep talk, his hands gripped the steering wheel a bit tighter. The orphanage cum old age home loomed ahead, and Anirudh took a deep breath as he parked the car. He checked his reflection in the rearview mirror, adjusting his hair with a nervous smile.

Anirudh's phone buzzed, and he noticed a message from Dadi on WhatsApp.

Dadi: "Beta, the address is right. Trust me. You'll understand when you get there. Best of luck!"

Anirudh: (to himself) "Alright, Dadi. Here goes nothing."

As he approached the entrance, his heart pounded with uncertainty. The scent of the lunchbox in his hand mingled with the emotional cocktail swirling within him. The door opened, and he stepped inside, his nervousness transforming into a determination to face whatever awaited him.

Little did Anirudh know that this unconventional setting was about to lead him on a unique journey, one that would challenge his preconceptions and open his heart to the unexpected.

In a lemon coloured Kurti paired with white pants, Vasudha was engrossed in her work at the desk when a subtle movement caught her attention. She looked up, and her eyes widened as she saw a handsome young man standing in the doorway. Dressed in a soft pink shirt paired with blue trousers, he exuded a charming aura that made her heart skip a beat.

Vasudha: (stammering) "Uh, h-hi. Who... who are you?"

Anirudh: (smiling) "Hi, I'm Anirudh. Mrs. Raichand's grandson. She mentioned we'd be meeting today."

A warm smile played on Anirudh's lips as he introduced himself, immediately putting Vasudha at ease. She welcomed him into her cabin, gesturing towards a comfortable couch.

Vasudha: "Oh, of course! Please, have a seat."

Anirudh took a seat, and Vasudha couldn't help but feel a flutter of nervous excitement. She looked down, suddenly finding the papers on her desk incredibly interesting.

Anirudh: (casually trying to hide his nervousness) "So, Vasudha, how's your day been so far?"

As Anirudh initiated the conversation, Vasudha found it hard to meet his gaze. The air seemed charged with an unspoken energy, and she could feel a gentle warmth spreading through her. Anirudh, sensing her shyness, decided to break the ice.

Vasudha: (blushing) "It's been good. Just the usual... work and stuff."

Anirudh:(tries to get his confusion cleared) "Umm you work here?"

Vasudha: "Umm, I started this around a year and a half back."

Anirudh: "That sounds incredible. How did you get into this line of work?"

Vasudha's gaze softened as she delved into her past, sharing the personal journey that led her to the orphanage-cum-old age home.

Vasudha: "Well, it started with a personal experience. I lost my parents at the age of four, and then I moved in with my Nani. She uhh passed away two years ago. I miss her a lot and used to feel really alone so I started this place. Coming here, being with everyone makes me miss Nani a little less. All of them love me a lot. I don't have any other family."

Anirudh admired her strength and resilience, sensing the depth of her commitment to making a difference in the lives of those who needed it most.

Anirudh (comforts her): "I am sorry for your loss, Vasudha but what you are doing is truly remarkable! But never say that you don't have a family. Dadi will eat you alive. She grown quite found of you. Who am I kidding, she loves you! "

Anirudh chuckles a little to ease the atmosphere. It was almost as if  after looking at Vasudha, all of Anirudh's nervousness had disappeared into thin air. He felt a sense of ease with her and realised there was nothing to be nervous about.

Anirudh:" Coming to dadi, she sent lunch for us."

He presented the lunch basket, and Vasudha's eyes widened at the gesture. She couldn't help but smile, feeling a wave of butterflies in her stomach.

Vasudha's eyes glistened and her emotional response caught Anirudh off guard. He hadn't expected such a heartfelt reaction to his Dadi's simple gesture. As she sobbed softly, Anirudh's concern grew, and he gently placed a hand on hers.

Anirudh: "Hey, why are you crying? What happened? All okay?"

Vasudha: (still sobbing) "Yes. Just no one has ever cooked me food after Nani left. I am truly touched by Dadi's love."

Anirudh couldn't help but feel a twinge in his chest at the raw emotion in Vasudha's words. He offered a comforting smile.

Anirudh: "Well, you got to get used to it now, this is going to be an everyday thing for a lifetime."

As soon as the words left his lips, Anirudh felt a subtle shift in the air. He wondered what had come over him. Just last night, the idea of an arranged meeting had seemed like a daunting task. Yet here he was, promising her a lifetime of love from his family.

Anirudh's mind raced, grappling with the unexpected turn of events. He pondered the weight of his words and the commitment they implied. His dadaji's coaxing seemed like a distant memory, and in its place was a newfound desire to be part of something meaningful.

Anirudh: (thinking to himself) "What just happened? Last night, I was hesitant, and now I'm promising a lifetime? Is this what they call love at first sight? Or is it just the magic of Dadi's cooking?"

Despite his inner turmoil, Anirudh chose not to dwell on these questions. Instead, he focused on the present moment, recognizing the sincerity of Vasudha's emotions.

The lunch continued, and with each shared bite, the atmosphere lightened. Anirudh and Vasudha delved into stories of their families, childhood memories, and dreams for the future. Laughter replaced tears, and the lunch became a symbol of a new beginning.

As they wrapped up their meal, Anirudh couldn't deny the subtle shift in the dynamics. The once daunting prospect of an arranged meeting had transformed into an unexpected connection—one that seemed to transcend the boundaries of tradition and unfold like the chapters of a beautiful story.

Vasudha was wrapping up the lunch basket when Anirudh took a deep breath, his gaze sincere and focused on Vasudha.

Anirudh: "Vasudha, there's something I wanted to talk to you about."

Vasudha nodded, her eyes reflecting a mix of curiosity and anticipation.

Anirudh: "I've never been very good with these things, but I believe honesty is important. I've never had any girlfriends or even crushes, except for a small one while growing up on Madhuri Dixit."

Vasudha couldn't help but smile at the charming admission.

Anirudh continued, "In less than 24 hours, I've seen how much my family has grown to like you. It got me thinking about us, about our future."

Vasudha listened intently, her eyes locked onto Anirudh's, eager to hear his thoughts.

Anirudh: "I may not know much about love or marriages, but everything I know, I've learned from my grandparents, parents and my Chachu-chachis. They've shown me what a happy marriage looks like, and I want the same for us."

He took a moment, gauging Vasudha's reaction, before continuing, "I don't know what a wife expects or truly wishes, but I want to learn. I want to understand you, Vasudha, so that I can provide whatever you desire."

Vasudha's eyes softened as she absorbed his sincerity. Anirudh pressed on, determined to express himself fully.

Anirudh: "This is my first time with a girl, and I might not be as romantic as they show in films. But I can promise you this – I will always respect you, your space, and your emotions. I might not have experience, but I'm willing to give my best to our relationship."

As Anirudh spoke, Vasudha could feel the authenticity of his words. There was a vulnerability in his admission, a genuine desire to make their potential relationship work.

Vasudha: (smiling) "Ji."

Anirudh: "Is there anything you want to ask me."

Vasudha: "Ji nahi."

Anirudh: "Why are you not talking? Kuch toh kaho. Maine such galas kaha kya?"

Vasudha: "Nahi nahi, please aap aise mat sochiye! Mai bas samajh nahi paa rahi hu ki apaise kya kahun."

Anirudh: "Kuch bhi. Jo bhi tum kehna chaho!"

Vasudha took a moment, gathering her thoughts before speaking with a soft, reassuring smile.

Vasudha: "Ji, your honesty means a lot to me. I want you to know that I'm not looking for grand gestures or romantic clichés. I value respect and acceptance more than anything else. All I want is a family, your family, and the happiness that comes with it."

Anirudh nodded, appreciating the simplicity of her desires.

Vasudha: "Aapse aaj milkar, I've come to realize that your family is of utmost importance to you. I promise you, I will always understand and support you. I know the importance of family, and I want to be a part of yours in every way possible."

She continued, "I don't need lavish promises or extraordinary gestures. All I want is to contribute to the happiness and honor of our family. Your family's joy will be my joy, their honor, my honor."

Vasudha's words were genuine, reflecting her commitment to embracing her role in the Raichand family. She wanted Anirudh to know that she wasn't seeking perfection but rather a partnership built on understanding, respect, and shared values.

Vasudha: "I'll give my best to become the wife you want and the daughter-in-law your family desires. I understand that every family has its traditions and dynamics, and I am willing to learn, adapt, and contribute in any way I can."

As she spoke, Vasudha's eyes held a quiet determination, and Anirudh could sense the depth of her sincerity. In that moment, a subtle understanding passed between them — a mutual promise to support, cherish, and build a life together rooted in shared values and mutual respect. Little did they realize that this exchange of promises would become the foundation for a beautiful journey that lay ahead of them- their journey of love!
